once upon a time there was a young woman who was in allot of pain. Her screams of agony could be heard throughout the thick forest in which she lived with her young husband.
Concerned for his wife’s health the young husband looked to his mother and asked “what is wrong with my Darling wife”
“nothing is wrong with your wife, sweet son” Said his mother with a smile“you should be happy, because your wife is giving birth”
With that the young woman gave birth to three daughters. One was fair as snow, with long blonde hair and beautiful rosy cheeks, one was plain as grey cotton, with ashen skin and grey hair and one was as ugly as dirt, with thick bushy eyebrows and and a fat short body.
When their mother saw all three sisters and noticed how far apart her daughters were in appearance she had a thought. She looked to her husband and said, “we hardly have enough food to feed ourselves, so we shall give 2 of these children away.” Her husband looked at her with sadness and exclaimed “you can’t be serious”
The young mother gave him a knowing look; she knew that her husband would never be able to part with his children, whom he loved so very much. So as she lay in bed, holding her sleeping infants, the young mother agreed that they should keep the children.
But that very night, she snuck out, because she knew that if she and her husband were going to keep these children they would all surely starve.
Her plan was to travel to the castle in the east, where she had heard that the king and queen were looking for a daughter to call their own. She adorned ragged clothing and put each of her daughter in a potato bag, to keep them safe, because there were bandits on the lose in the big dark forest
The path to the castle was long and winding and nary had she stepped 2 feet into the thick brush, when she was attacked by bandits.
“hold there beggar woman” said the leader of the bandits, whose beard was so big and red, that the only thing you could see of his face was his large black eyes.
“I don’t have anything” said the young mother, but the leader of the bandits wasn’t fooled.
“what is that on your back?” he asked suspiciously.
“it is nothing but potatoes” said the young mother straining to sound older than she actually was.
“Humbug” exclaimed the leader of the bandits “I just was one of them move, surely you are not trying to tell me that your potatoes have grown legs”
The young mother looked up at him with tears in her eyes and said “please, spare me. I am on my way to deliver one of my three beloved daughter to the king and queen”
“Let me see these children” said the leader of the Bandits and the young mother lowered the potato sacks from her back and showed the three sleeping children to the big brute.
The leader of the bandits looked at her and then at the three sleeping girls and said, “I shall take one”
The young mother quickly drew her children close, because she loved them and did not want to see them given over to this ox of a man. When the leader of the bandits saw this action, he hopped of his horse with such grace that the young mother forgot where she was for an instance and the pretty child slipped from her grasp.
The fair little girl tumbled onto the rough under-brush of the forest. She woke up immediately, but instead of crying out, she just looked up at the big brute in front of her and giggled.
“I shall take that one” said the leader of the bandits.
The young mother looked at him with horror, for that was the daughter she had planned to live the life of a princess.
“you mustn’t, you can’t” she pleaded with the leader of the bandits, but he would not be dissuaded.
“You can leave with your two remaining daughters or not at all, it is your choice” He told her, with a stern expression.
With many kisses and much sobbing the young mother left her prettiest child behind to be raised by bandits and continued on her way to the castle.
OK, so if you’ve made it this far, you already know that I am kind of straying from the norm with this post.
I thought it would be fun for once to try and do some creative writing, since it is actually what I want to be good at. I thought it would be best to start easy with something that I could expand on, so that is why I decided to do a fairy tale.
I hope you have enjoyed this, because there is more to come
