super speedpainting funtimes

05

As a part of my new years resolution, I vowed that I would draw a bit more often and become better at being consistent, in the way that I once was. I plan to uphold that resolution, and to that effect, we have super speedpainting funtimes.

super speedpainting funtimes (or SSF as it will be known from this moment onwards) is a facebook group which challenges you to spend an hour drawing o of 6 subjects that they present for the day. Unlike the daily spitpaint, the subjects on SSF have no restriction. You may use any tool at your disposal to create whatever you which, this is both great and quite daunting.

The theme that I chose for today was a magma planet terrain vehicle. I was immediately inspired by deep sea fish and anything else which lives under harsh conditions, which is why I ended up with this fish design. I hope you enjoy it.

tentative tutorials – episode 1

building

This is a piece I did as a part of a small video game project that I am working (as the video suggest), but it also marks the first episode of my new tutorial series, which I have entitled “Tentative Tutorials”.

These videos will come out twice a week for the foreseeable future. I hope to be able to teach some people some stuff and make the internet a slightly more varied place, by adding my voice to it.

What you see here is is actually a bit of a special piece of concept art.

This is the last piece that was drawn while we were still planning for our game to be an FPS single player experience along the lines of amnesia or outlast.

To be fair, this piece was not the deciding factor, which changed our minds. what changed our minds were long and rather tiresome conversations between the core team about the kind of game we wanted to make.

We were all in agreement that the game should be an unique horror experience, but bringing that from our vague concepts to an actual playable demo, proved harder than we thought it was going to be.

In the end we decided to scrap the idea of doing anything in 3D, as it would be too taxing for us as a team to create something we would be proud of in that medium.

Rather, we chose to focus on a 2D adventure, something which we knew we would be able to execute… well, to be fair, that last point remains to be seen.

The start of a project

Ok, so as you see, I am still fighting the good fight with Concept art.

The good thing os that this art is not just art for the sake of it. These are concepts for a game that I will be making these next 5 weeks.

I don’t know anything about the game yet and by the looks of it, I still don’t know much about concept art.

But I will persist with this kind of art, because I need to be able to do it, if I ever want to be a game designer. Hopefully these next couple of weeks will heighten my skill and my resolve that this is the kind of work I want to do all day every day.
