As sone of you may gave noticed, I don’t always have allot of time to draw. At least I don’t have as much time as I would like. That is why, when I actually find the time, I like to challenge myself as much as I can.
That is how I came to draw this setup, as a way to get the juices glowing and maybe remind myself that I actually can draw things otger than cutesy looking disneyesque characters.
One of the things I try to do, to improve my skill, is to challenge myself as much as I can. One way to do this, is by wotking with subject matter that I am not ovetly comfotable.
Thus, I fud a still life today if shoes, because, if there is one thing I can’t draw it’s feet and more importantly shies.
If any of my readers are from denmark, germany, france or really any of the countries in middle europe, you will undoubtedly be just as tired of Winter as I am.
Yep, we have passed easter and have gone into april and still spring is nowhere to be found. It kind of seems that the planet forgot how to perform the simple task of spring this year.
To mark the occasion of the winter that would not seem to end I decided to make a small illustration of the weather in denmark.
I am hoping that tomorrow will bring better weather, but until then, I will just have to live out the winter like everybody else
I really don’t think I am a particularly talented artist, well at least not yet.
I see myself a a talent in development, and as part of that development I try to draw for at least an hour a day.
Ever since I bought my galaxy note 10.1 my focus has shifted to still lives, as it allows me to really just draw anything that is in front of me. Armed with the application Layerpaint, I have committed these drawing in the last month
Today I decided to pose myself a challenge. I thought it was about time that I tried something new, since I have been doing these still lives for a couple of weeks now.
That is why I decided to work with reflection and immediately wished I hadn’t. Damn, reflections suck. Reflections really pose a series of problems, not only do you have to work with a skewered perspective and the reflective properties of everything around you, you also have to draw your own terrible posture trying to draw the damn reflection.
all in all, This might not be my best work, but don’t hate me, I was just trying something new
It might not show, as a matter of fact I’m quite sure it doesn’t show, but these workds that I have been sporting for the last couple of days are realle damn hard to do.
The combonation of light, shape and color can be and often is a bitch to get down just right. That is why, when you do it right you are elated beyond reason… and also why you feel like killing yourselkf after 3 hours of fruitless work.
Today was one of the latter days.
I have spend some time on these lately and I have realized that there is one thing that just sucks to draw.
That thing is boots.
I have owned this particular son of a b… Let me start over. This is a subject matter that I have worked on for a while, but for whatever reason I never seem to get any better at drawing this motherf…
Ok, I might not be able to keep my cool here, so just trust me when I hay that it has been hell to draw.
Once in a while you come across a subject matter for a drawing that just don’t want to cooperate. For this particular drawing, I has 3 such subject matters
first I decided that it could be fun to draw a shoe, more specifically, one of my converse all stars. This was hell in itself since this is just a piece of fabric struck to a piece of rubber and interlaced with string. This combined with the fact that drapery is really one of my weakest points and you can draw your own conclusion (yes, pun intended)
next you have a highly glossy pot that I thought would be great practice, and I turned out to be right. However I ended up becoming frustrated with the amount of light that shone off the damn thing.
And lastly there w3as the semi transparent soda bottle… I just… it didn’t happen, lets leave it at that
this all combined to make an hours worth of fun procrastination into 3 hours of severe agony as I tried to get these damn things drawn.
Well, maybe I’ll be in a better mood in the morning and get something decent drawn
here is another one of those exiting still lives that I seem to be so fond of recently.
To be frank, these are allot of fun to draw, even if they are a bit boring to look at. that being said, I ca feel that this might be the place in my drawing progress that I have been neglecting. If you look through my galleries, I have mostly been focusing on figure drawing and stuff such as that and while it is a bit more fun to look at, it hasn’t progressed in a couple of months.
The great thing about now, is that I actually have the time to do these boring pieces of fluff. It won’t be long before I have to get back to actual work and be all serous and stuff.
so enjoy it while you can
That being said, I think it might be time for me to man up and just do it, with a sufficient amount of practice I should be able to get somewhere with this practice
